Position Details

Classification Title: Pharmacy Tech
Working Title: Pharmacy Technician
Brief Position Overview: Join a mission-driven healthcare team dedicated to MSU student well-being. The SHS Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in delivering accurate, confidential, and accessible pharmacy services to MSU students from a state-of-the-art campus facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process and dispense prescriptions under pharmacist supervision in compliance with Montana Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Strictly maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Deliver courteous, professional service to MSU students
  • Manage medication inventory including controlled substances
  • Process insurance claims and billing
  • Over-the-counter and retail sale management
  • Maintain required records and support pharmacy administrative functions

Required Qualifications

  • Active Montana Certified Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT via PTCB or ExCPT/NHA), or eligibility for a provisional license; active licensure required prior to start date (ARM 24.174.701)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (Montana Board of Pharmacy requirement)

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPhT credential (PTCB preferred)
  • Previous experience in a retail, clinic, or hospital pharmacy setting
  • Experience with pharmacy management software
  • Familiarity with third-party insurance billing and claims processing
  • Experience working in a college health, public health, or student-facing service environment

Special Requirements/Additional Information

  • Montana Board of Pharmacy Compliance: This position is subject to all applicable provisions of Montana Administrative Rules Chapter 24.174. The selected candidate must maintain an active Montana pharmacy technician license and comply with all continuing education requirements mandated by the certifying agency for annual license renewal.
  • The successful candidate will have Monday–Friday availability during SHS Pharmacy operating hours

Physical Demands

  • Able to stand for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity to count, label, and package medications
  • Able to lift and carry pharmacy supplies (up to 25 lbs)
