About the Role
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for processing new patient medication orders and reorders. Working with the pharmacist, the technician ensures orders are processed accurately and promptly, communicating with patients and healthcare providers as needed. Additional duties include answering incoming calls, assisting with drug inventory, and adhering to company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Obtain relevant patient information needed to process orders while maintaining HIPAA regulations.
- Accurately process new prescriptions into the pharmacy information system and process reorders as requested.
- Select and retrieve appropriate medications to prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification.
- Screen, identify, and resolve or defer orders that have accounts receivable or clinical problems to a pharmacist.
- Collect and document call information according to operating procedures.
- Communicate and collect co-payment amounts.
- Package, weigh, and label medications for shipments.
- Maintain a clean and efficient work environment; replenish workstation supplies, clean equipment, and follow proper housekeeping techniques.
- Participate in the pharmacy’s Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Perform all tasks in a safe and compliant manner consistent with company policies, State, and Federal laws and regulations.
- Promote safe, efficient, and cost-effective medication use in compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies, accrediting organizations, and HIPAA regulations.
- Provide efficient and exemplary customer service through effective order processing, issue resolution, and communication.
- Actively participate in and facilitate quality and process improvement activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- 1+ years of pharmacy technician experience in retail or mail order setting preferred.
- Must be a registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Kentucky; National Certification (CPhT) preferred.
