About the role
The Pharmacy Technician operates under the direction of a pharmacist, performing pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care. This role adheres to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, demonstrating ethical conduct and maintaining patient confidentiality. The position supports the mission and values of Madison Valley Medical Center (MVMC).
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil codes.
- Comply with state and federal guidelines for annual licensing and drug dispensing restrictions.
- Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions about products and services.
- Observe scheduled shift operating hours.
- Follow approved efficiency and accuracy procedures when filling prescriptions.
- Monitor and maintain patient profiles and inventory levels, including shelf maintenance.
- Perform daily operational duties under the direction of the pharmacy manager.
- Follow department policies, procedures, and best practices for all pharmacy operations.
- Understand and perform cashier functions.
- Stay current with medication information and continuing education (CE) requirements.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations.
- Maintain adherence to merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense, supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and engagement rules.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repair needs.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents, safety risks, or illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft, fraud).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Pharmacy Technician license required.
- Retail pharmacy experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- CPR certification required.
- Ability to meet the minimum physical demands of the position.
- Knowledge of basic math: counting, addition, and subtraction.
- Ability to preserve confidentiality of information.

- Self-directed, with the ability to complete assignments accurately and thoroughly with minimal oversight.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Extensive standing and walking, with occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull at least 50 pounds.
- Very good close vision and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
- Some risk of radiation exposure and electrical shock.
- Work is in a clean hospital environment with quiet to moderate noise levels.
- Frequent keyboarding and repetitive movements.
Non-Essential Functions
- Attend workshops, seminars, and educational sessions to stay updated on changes in assigned areas of responsibility.
Supervision
This position does not supervise other staff.
