Essential Job Duties

  • Affords reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Absorbs patients dropping off prescriptions.
  • Collects and ensures accuracy of all relevant patient and insurance information.
  • Accurately inputs prescription information into the computer system.
  • Communicates with insurance carriers to secure payment for prescription claims.
  • Assists the pharmacist in practicing pharmacy within regulatory guidelines and policies.
  • Fills and labels prescriptions under the pharmacist's supervision.
  • Communicates with prescribers and their agents to acquire new or refill prescriptions.
  • Participates in a collaborative approach to Pharmacy Medication Management.
  • Verifies prescriptions and signatures at the point of sale.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies, and ensuring order accuracy.
  • Completes requisitions for supplies and processes incoming orders.
  • Answers phones promptly and addresses routine inquiries from prescribers, nurses, or patients.
  • Communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain new prescriptions and clarify drug orders.
  • Compounds ointments and creams under pharmacist supervision.
  • Pre-packages bulk medications and records information for outlying sites, migrant camps, school-based programs, etc.
  • Supports other pharmacy staff as required.
  • Maintains workflow according to current Pharmacy guidelines and standards.
  • Maintains a clean work area following Pharmacy guidelines and standards.
  • Stays informed about community and pharmaceutical developments and applies them to practice.

Marginal Job Duties

  • Conducts Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities under the direction of the Pharmacy Director.
  • Keeps records of statistical data.
  • Performs other tasks as directed.

Job Specifications

  • Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Licensure: State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license through PTCB or NHA encouraged.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Experience: Six months previous retail or hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Skills: Basic computer skills, pharmacy program literacy preferred; typing accuracy at 35 wpm; basic pharmaceutical math; knowledge of medication brands and generic names; understanding of insurance and third-party payment systems; excellent attention to detail; multitasking ability; medical terminology and calculations knowledge; effective communication; bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for an entire workday; lift, carry, push, pull, and/or twist up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • HOURS OF WORK: Full-time or part-time; flexible and varied; float between sites as necessary; local travel between sites as necessary; reimbursement for expenses provided according to existing rates as established by GLBHC policy.
  • Travel: Local travel between sites as necessary.

  • Must be a licensed driver with proof of personal liability and property damage insurance.
