Essential Job Duties
- Affords reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Assists patients who are dropping off prescriptions.
- Ensures appropriate patient and insurance information is obtained.
- Ensures patient/insurance profiles are accurate in the computer system.
- Reads and accurately enters prescription information into the system.
- Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims.
- Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy.
- Fills and labels prescriptions under the pharmacist's supervision.
- Communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain new or refill prescriptions.
- Participates in a team-based approach to Pharmacy Medication Management.
- Verifies that customers receive correct prescriptions and sign for them.
- Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs.
- Completes requisitions for supplies and receives incoming orders.
- Answers phones properly and in a timely manner.
- Responds to routine questions from prescribers, nurses, or patients and refers calls to the pharmacist.
- Communicates with prescribers and their agents to receive new prescriptions and clarify drug orders.
- Compounds ointments and creams under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Pre-packages bulk medications and labels / records keeping for outlying sites, migrant camps, school-based programs, etc.
- Assists other pharmacy staff as needed.
- Maintains workflow using current Pharmacy guidelines/standards.
- Maintains a clean work area using current Pharmacy guidelines/standards.
- Maintains awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields and integrates them into own practices.
Marginal Job Duties
- Conducts Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities under the guidance of the Pharmacy Director.
- Keeps a record of numerous statistical data.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
- Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
- Licensure: State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license through PTCB or NHA encouraged.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Experience: Six months previous retail or hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Skills: Basic computer skills, pharmacy program literacy preferred; typing accuracy at 35 wpm; basic pharmaceutical math; knowledge of medication brands and generic names; knowledge of insurance and third-party payment systems; excellent attention to detail; multi-tasking ability; understanding of medical terminology and calculations; ability to follow oral and written instructions; bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills including effective communication with a diverse population; professional and courteous attitude; professional respect for patient’s rights to confidentiality; exhibits a team-based approach to customer service.
- Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for an entire workday; must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and/or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
- HOURS OF WORK: Full-time or part-time; flexible and varied; float between sites as necessary; local travel between sites as necessary; reimbursement for expenses provided according to existing rates as established by GLBHC policy.

- Must be a licensed driver with proof of personal liability and property damage insurance.
