Responsibilities

  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the pharmacy as defined by the scope of service to ensure that the unique nature of the patient’s needs are addressed.
  • Assists patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders; may assist with deliveries.
  • Aids patients with updating their pharmacy profile, including demographic, health and insurance information in the computer.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of, and conforms to legal requirements concerning the distribution of drugs, as well as good working knowledge of recent developments in the field of pharmacy (education by attending available conferences, meetings and seminars).
  • Maintains accurate and proper patient medication profiles.
  • Interprets physician medication orders for accuracy.
  • Enters prescription orders into the computer.
  • Communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization.
  • Ensures the correct dispensing and labeling of medication prior to verification by pharmacist.
  • Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims.
  • At point of sale, verifies that the patient receives correct prescription(s) and offers pharmacist counseling.
  • Aids with periodic medication orders to wholesalers, places orders on shelves, and verifies all associated paperwork.
  • Aids with the pharmacy inventory.
  • Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of the pharmacy, in accordance with local, state, federal, and company regulations.
  • Assists other pharmacy technicians.
  • Maintains knowledge of loss prevention techniques.
  • Keeps up with daily pharmacy staff projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • State Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Minimum one year of pharmacy experience.
  • PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred.
