Responsibilities
- Prepare prescription labels, select the type of prescription container, and affix the prescription and auxiliary labels to the container.
- Price and file prescriptions, which must be checked by a pharmacist before they are given to the patient.
- Establish and maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms, and stock and take inventory of prescription and over-the-counter medications where applicable.
- Process patient charges for pharmaceuticals in an efficient and timely manner, credits through computer software systems, and physically returns to stock any already dispensed medications not picked up by patients.
- Keeps workspace neat, clean, and organized by dusting and cleaning pill counters and shelves, checking for and removing expired drugs, checking for correct medication counts where applicable, and restocking all work areas throughout the day.
- Collects, organizes, and evaluates patient information, including but not limited to patient address, allergies, insurance information, and all necessary information so the prescription may be properly filled. Verifies that information on the prescription is complete and accurate.
- Accurately and efficiently performs activities appropriate to technology associated with pharmacy software, communicates with the pharmacist concerning the availability of medications, and demonstrates engagement with pharmacy practices through reviewing departmental communications and communication with management.
- Demonstrates ethical conduct and maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Participates in process improvement projects and follows established processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
- Maintains good relationships with patients and providers by answering phones promptly and in a timely manner. Addresses patient and provider questions and/or concerns with the pharmacist and/or pharmacy management promptly.
- Treats all customers and providers with appropriate phone or personal etiquette as defined by policy.
- Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
Qualifications
- 1 year Hospital Pharmacy experience; 6 months prior IV room experience.
- Successful passing of the National Pharmacy Technician exam and State Pharmacy Certification.
