Pharmacy Tech - Per Diem

The Pharmacy Technician, Outpatient Pharmacy is responsible for providing pharmacy services including prescription intake, insurance claims resolution, medication preparation, inventory management, customer service, and compliance with state and federal regulations under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly and helpful customer service to patients, families, and providers in person and by telephone, addressing medication-related inquiries and prescription pick-up guidance.
• Process prescription orders, update patient information, and manage administrative tasks such as faxing, filing, and documenting non-electronic prescriptions, MassPAT PMP requirements, 340B eligibility, and other procedures.
• Verify and update patient insurance information, process claims, and resolve prescription issues by collaborating with pharmacists and prescribers to find solutions like alternative medications or co-pay discount programs.
• Prepare medications for dispensing under pharmacist supervision, including measuring, counting, labeling, and compounding non-sterile medications according to established policies and standards.
• Manage pharmacy inventory by monitoring stock levels, placing orders, receiving and rotating medications, restocking supplies, and removing outdated or expired drugs.
• Ensure proper storage of medications and compliance with all federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations, including routine quality control, cleaning, and equipment maintenance.
• Maintain logs and records, adhere to privacy, infection-control, and annual competency requirements, and participate in training new technicians and pharmacy students.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current registration as a pharmacy technician by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
• Current national certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to learn effective techniques and processes with strong attention to detail.
• Basic computer skills and ability to follow directions.
• Pharmaceutical knowledge and skills including:
  • Basic pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
  • Drug classification.
  • FDA and legal compliance.
  • Quality control.

Schedule

Flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.

Pay

The posted pay range reflects Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation at the time of posting. The base pay offer depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and other job-related factors.
