Pharmacy Tech

About the role

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work closely with pharmacists and the pharmacy team to purchase medication, prepare, label, and deliver medication, and maintain inventory.

Responsibilities

• Fill patient medication cassettes
• Prepare IV solutions
• Fill Automated Dispensing Cabinets
• Deliver medications and supplies to units
• Fill floor stock orders
• Perform various computer functions relating to billing, printing labels, and reports
• Obtain and record patient medication histories in the hospital health information system (HIS)
• Perform complete medication reconciliation to ensure accurate information is available to providers
• Prepare medications for patients
• Receive and verify prescriptions
• Price and fill prescriptions
• Obtain pharmacist’s approval
• Complete patient paperwork related to filling prescriptions
• Assist with insurance claims processing
• Stock and price medications in inventory
• Ensure availability of drugs by delivering them to patients or facilities
• Maintain pharmacy and patient safety by adhering to infection-control procedures, policies, and regulations

Requirements

• Two years of Health Systems/Hospital experience (Retail/Outpatient Pharmacy preferred)
• IV experience preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree preferred
• Current licensure as a New York State Registered Pharmacy Technician
• Active PTCB or NHA CPhT certification
