Position Summary

The Advanced Pharmacy Technician at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System performs functions pertaining to the dispensing of medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Responsibilities include expanding technical functions to include IV process proficiency, problem-solving skills, and quality improvement involvement. Leadership skills are required for written and verbal communication supporting departmental objectives.

Responsibilities

• Performs all position accountabilities and performance criteria for level I and level II technicians.
• Affords assistance to the pharmacist in technician training for levels I and II.
• Initiates and/or coordinates improvement activities as needed.
• Affords support in the implementation of new projects, including policy and procedure development.
• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in meeting the age-specific needs of the population served.
• Follows established policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Completes required educational assignments annually.
• Works towards achieving departmental goals and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: None specified; however, must meet standards for the required license and/or certification as issued by the issuing authority.
• Minimum Experience: Three (3) years’ experience or two (2) years with State-approved certification.
• Preferable Pharmacy Experience and Computer Data Entry Skills.
