About the Role
Accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities. Ensures efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician, responsible for operating pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Under pharmacist supervision, oversees pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics
- Responsible for selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel
- Leads training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians
- Makes decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination
- Greets customers, offers assistance, resolves complaints, and answers non-clinical questions
- Models and shares customer service best practices; develops strong customer relationships
- Assists pharmacist with patient care including registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verifying (where allowed by law)
- Completes patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision (where allowed by law)
- Assists with healthcare service offerings including vaccines, health screenings, and other health services allowed by law
- Delegates, directs, and assigns non-clinical work; ensures tasks are completed on-time and holds others accountable for workflow
- Prepares and files reports and records required by the company and government agencies
- Manages core pharmacy workflow, coordinates daily schedule, and recommends allocation of pharmacy hours
- Ensures pharmacy is clean, neat, orderly, and stocked with adequate supplies
- Executes business administrative activities and inventory management tasks not requiring pharmacist licensure
- Manages annual inventory preparation; completes non-clinical patient calls
- Drives new technology/process rollout, champions change, and engages team around action planning
- Ensures proper operation and maintenance of pharmacy equipment
- Responsible for recordkeeping and security safeguards in collaboration with Pharmacy Manager
- Adheres to Good Faith Dispensing policy and understands role in meeting those elements
- Maintains knowledge of asset protection techniques; supports diversion monitoring
- Communicates prescription errors to pharmacist and adheres to Continuous Quality Improvement Program
- Ensures accurate insurance claims processing; follows up with insurers and medical providers; participates in 3rd party audits
- Assists in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service
- Manages Community Outreach Portal and coordinates off-site immunization clinics and community events
- Builds and sustains relationships with retail partnerships
- Leads performance management of technicians including discipline, suspension, and termination decisions
- Ensures technicians comply with state and federal laws; holds them accountable for attendance and timeliness
- Accountable for technician hiring, on-boarding, training, and scheduling
- Monitors timely training completion and identifies gaps in pharmacy operations knowledge
- Assists Pharmacy Manager in monitoring licensures, registrations, and certifications compliance
- Ensures proper selection, recruitment, record retention, and training per company policy and laws
- Communicates with pharmacy team, relays messages from support center, and participates in store/pharmacy meetings
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- PTCB certification (except in Puerto Rico)
- One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico)
- Willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous people management/leadership experience
- Previous work experience with Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation
Pay & Benefits
- Hourly salary range: $22.50 - $31.00 per hour (actual offer depends on geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant factors)
