Pharmacy Non-Traditional Resident

Position Summary

The Non-Traditional Pharmacy Resident serves as a postgraduate year one (PGY-1) resident for the period of two years in accordance with the American Health-System Pharmacists' standards. The resident alternates between resident responsibilities and staff pharmacist responsibilities (approximately 52 weeks of residency experience and approximately 52 weeks of staffing responsibility). The resident will work as a member of the pharmacy department to further develop their pharmacy practice and leadership skills. Responsible for providing safe, effective, appropriate, timely, and cost-efficient medication therapy that complies with hospital policy and procedure and Federal, State and local laws, and any applicable rules and regulations.

Qualifications

• Active Pharmacy intern license or pharmacy technician trainee or certification license with Texas State Board of Pharmacy upon hire if no pharmacy license
• Must obtain Pharmacy License with Texas State Board of Pharmacy within 120 days of hire
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training is required as a member of rapid response and code blue teams (must have or obtain within 3 months of hiring) and maintain qualifications throughout employment
• IV Certification as per USP 797 (must have or obtain within 2 months of hiring) and maintain qualifications throughout employment

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The following physical activities are spent during a major portion of the day:

• Stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms, climb/balance, stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl
• Lift up to 10 pounds, up to 25 pounds, up to 50 pounds, up to 100 pounds, and more than 100 pounds
• Potential exposure to hazardous, toxic substances, and sticks by needles or other sharp items
• Potential exposure to carcinogenic (cancer causing) and allergenic (allergy causing) substances
• Candidate must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job
