Pharmacy Manager – Oncology
About the role
The Pharmacy Oncology Manager leads system-wide oncology pharmacy services in hematology/oncology, ensuring safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective medication management across inpatient, outpatient infusion, residency training programs, and specialty settings through innovative pharmacy services, clinical excellence, and system-wide collaboration. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements, drives financial stewardship, fosters staff development, and serves as a key partner in advancing the health system’s cancer service line.
Responsibilities
- Drives strategic initiatives, oversees oncology-related drug utilization programs
- Serves as a key resource to interdisciplinary teams
- Integrates patient-centered care, education, research, and operational oversight
- Elevates oncology pharmacy services to deliver exceptional outcomes for patients, providers, and the community
- Directs pharmacy education and residency programs
- Contributes to research
- Represents pharmacy leadership in system-wide committees to advance oncology pharmacy practice
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years total pharmacy experience, including 3 years as a clinical pharmacy specialist in progressive oncology practice
- Minimum 3 years of related pharmacy management experience
- Above average verbal communication (heavy public contact)
- Exceptional verbal/public speaking
- Writing correspondence and reports
- MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Word proficiency
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (MBA, MPH, MHA, or related) preferred
- Texas Pharmacist License or eligible (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
- Texas Pharmacist Preceptor Certification within 90 days of employment
- PGY1 ASHP-accredited residency
- PGY2 ASHP-accredited residency or 5 years oncology experience
- IV Sterile Certification (required for inpatient areas and Fondren Pharmacy; preferred for ACS and LBJ OP)
- Board Certified Pharmacy Specialist in Oncology to be completed within 18 months if not currently held
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for inpatient positions within 6 months
- NICU/EC Clinical Specialists: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
