Oncology/Investigational Drugs Pharmacy Manager

This position is the pharmacy manager for our Inpatient Oncology and Investigational Drugs Service (IDS) areas. The Manager works closely with the Oncology/IDS/Infusion Assistant Chief to identify areas of improvement and solutions, ensure regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness and efficiency.

About the Role

The Oncology/IDS Services Manager serves as the primary USP 800 Designee for the health-system, collaborating with other health-system leaders to facilitate and ensure compliance with all aspects of USP 800 and handling of hazardous drugs throughout the health-system. The Oncology/IDS Pharmacy Manager ensures oncology and IDS pharmacy areas maintain compliance with State and Federal regulations, Joint Commission and professional practice standards, as well as University and department policies, procedures and standards.

The Oncology/IDS Manager is responsible for supervision of pharmacist and technician supervisors and staff, maintaining oversight of documentation and assessment of staff competency and training. The Manager works closely with the Assistant Chief and oncology and IDS pharmacy staff to facilitate optimum drug utilization, preparation and waste, oversee operational aspects of Oncology and IDS pharmacy services, inventory control and regulatory compliance.

Assists the Chief Pharmacist and other members of the management team to plan, implement and monitor new programs and processes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of pharmacy services. Plans and coordinates the development of pharmacists and technicians to meet regulatory requirements and patient needs. Serves as departmental liaison with Patient Care Services and other departments. Participates on departmental and interdisciplinary committees.

Requirements

• California Pharmacist License. Out-of-state Pharmacists eligible to apply. If licensed out-of-state at the time of hire, must obtain and provide a California Pharmacist licensure within six (6) months of the hire date.
• Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent training.
• Lead or supervisory experience within a hospital or Infusion Pharmacy setting.
• Experience in health-system, hospital or infusion pharmacy.
• Experience in sterile compounding and oversight of compliance with BOP and USP regulations.
• Experience in oversight of hazardous drugs and regulatory requirements related to USP 800.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board Certification (e.g. Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP), Board Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacist (BCSCP)), or equivalent.
• Lean Certifications.
• Master's degree (e.g., Master of Science (MS), Master's in Healthcare Admin (MHA), Master of Business Administration (MBA)), or equivalent.
• Management experience within a hospital or Infusion Pharmacy setting, or completion of a Health System Pharmacy Administration residency.
• Experience in EPIC/BEACON or equivalent CPOE.
• Experience with clinical trials/Investigational Drugs Services.
• Completion of Post Graduate Year Two (PGY2) Oncology or IDR Residency training.

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Pay

Salary Range: $14,108.33 - $28,525.00 per month.

Schedule

Full-time (100%), Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts. This position is 100% on-site.
