Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with pharmacy technicians, prepares unit dose and intravenous medications for dispensing to patients. Makes scheduled deliveries to appointed nursing units to deliver medications to patients while ensuring medication security requirements set forth by The Joint Commission are met.
Responsibilities
- Assists pharmacists with medication order entry into the pharmacy computer system.
- Maintains stock levels of medications to avoid delays in service to patients.
- Prepares and packages medications for distribution.
- Distributes medications, supplies, and equipment to nursing and medical staff.
- Maintains proper inventory levels, ensuring medications are in date and secure.
- Keeps appropriate records and documentation, and submits patient charges/credits.
- Supports initiatives of area supervisors and managers.
- Demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team.
- Participates in continuing educational opportunities to meet annual competency requirements.
- Participates in continual training opportunities provided by the department to develop ongoing skills in other areas of the pharmacy.
- Complies with all rules and regulations of the hospital and pharmacy department.
Requirements
- Acceptance in an accredited college of Pharmacy.
- Must possess a current Ohio Board of Pharmacy Intern license within 120 days of hire, unless a current license is in place upon hire.
- Must maintain a current Ohio Board of Pharmacy intern license throughout employment.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
