Key Responsibilities
- Compound and dispense medications in accordance with physician orders and established protocols
- Review, verify, and interpret prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and potential interactions
- Perform Drug Utilization Reviews (DUR) to ensure safe and effective medication therapy
- Respond to and manage incoming physician calls regarding medication orders, clarifications, and recommendations
- Accurately enter and maintain patient and prescription data in pharmacy information systems
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local pharmacy laws and regulations
- Maintain proper storage, security, and recordkeeping of medications, including controlled substances
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient care initiatives
- Auxiliary with inventory management, medication ordering, and stock maintenance as needed
- Participate in quality assurance, safety initiatives, and performance improvement activities
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (B.S. Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
- Licensure: Active Pharmacist license in the State of Arkansas (or applicable state) required, in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy
- Experience: Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred
- Familiarity: Familiarity with pharmacy systems and electronic medical records (EMR) preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug therapy, and medication safety practices; excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in pharmacy software and data entry systems
Work Environment & Schedule
- PRN (as needed) position; schedule may vary based on facility needs may work 8- or 10-hour shifts
- May require evening, weekend, holiday, or on-call coverage
- Works in a healthcare facility environment with potential exposure to medications and clinical settings
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Manual dexterity required for compounding and dispensing medications
