Pharmacist Local Specialty
This posting is for a hybrid role with at least one day a week at the Specialty Pharmacy and the remainder of the schedule at retail sites.
About the Role
Provides pharmacy consulting services with empathy to patients regarding the effective usage of medications and awareness of drug interactions. Oversees the daily operations of the pharmacy department, including workflow management, clinical management of patients, continuous quality improvement, adherence to policy and procedure, compliance with internal and external regulatory bodies, pharmacy sales, expense control, and inventory management. Ensures accurate filling of prescriptions and the highest level of customer service for patients, providers, pharmaceutical, and payer partners while developing and protecting department assets.
Responsibilities
- Patient Experience
- Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., demonstrating curiosity, servicing until satisfied, championing empathy and inclusivity).
- Responds to patient inquiries and complaints in a timely manner to ensure a positive experience.
- Operations
- Manages daily pharmacy operations to improve prescription numbers, sales, profit, and image through accurate prescription filling and courteous, efficient service.
- Reports prescription errors immediately and adheres to policies and procedures relating to prescription incidents and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Complies with all federal and state laws, regulations, and Company policies governing drugs and products; maintains required records, documentation, and reports.
- Recommends and implements asset protection controls to minimize profit loss.
- Manages the store’s safe and "bank," including cash handling, register readings, and related reports.
- Ensures proper operation and maintenance of pharmacy systems and equipment.
- Maintains awareness of third-party pharmacy business opportunities and resolves payment rejections promptly.
- Manages and controls Prescription Department inventory, adhering to Company buying procedures.
- People & Performance Management
- Supervises pharmacy team members to ensure performance of required functions and adherence to Company policies.
- Ensures proper licensure of all pharmacy personnel and confirms training on payer and pharmaceutical contractual requirements.
- Reaffirms team members' obligations regarding prescription dispensing in good faith.
- Training & Personal Development
- Maintains current knowledge and required licensing/credentialing/certification as established by federal and state regulations.
- Seeks professional development by monitoring performance, soliciting feedback, and leveraging the pharmacy manager as a mentor.
- Stays current with pharmacy and healthcare developments by reading relevant journals, publications, and communications.
- Maintains awareness of best practices in retail and management to enhance performance.
- Communications
- Maintains and develops good working relationships with physicians and other health professionals.
- Collaborates with Local Specialty Pharmacy staff.
Requirements
- BS in Pharmacy or PharmD Degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Current pharmacist license in the states within the district.
- At least 1 year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, pharmacy operations, software and technology systems, and insurance.
- Completed specialized training or sufficient practical experience in medication and disease states (e.g., HIV, Organ Transplant, Oncology) to provide specialized services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience at a Walgreens Local Specialty Pharmacy.
- Average of 3.7 or above on leadership behaviors on the last performance review (internal candidates only).
- At least 6 months of pharmacy experience with Walgreen Co.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $87,859 - $168,896. The actual salary offered will depend on factors including geography, skills, abilities, education, and experience.
