Pharmacist in Charge

About the Role

Chewy is seeking a Pharmacist in Charge to lead our online neighborhood pharmacy in Pittston, Pennsylvania. This facility is fully dedicated to serving the needs of online pet parents, ensuring they receive the medications prescribed by their veterinarians. As the Pharmacist in Charge, you will lead a team of professionals committed to providing outstanding care and wellness services for pets and their owners. You will play a key role in the pharmacy team and partner with Chewy’s broader ecommerce fulfillment network, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily operations of the ecommerce pharmacy within our Pharmacy Fulfillment Center.
• Ensure adherence to facility SOPs and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Supervise pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and interns.
• Assist with investigations, documentation, and completion of Adverse Drug Event forms.
• Collaborate with the training team to support compliance initiatives.
• Keep senior leadership informed of operating issues and results.
• Write operational and production SOPs.
• Represent the facility on the Pharmacy Compliance Committee.
• Support order verification within the computer order processing queue to ensure accuracy.
• Enforce operational discipline and monitor aseptic behaviors to maintain a safe work environment.
• Work with Legal and Compliance to maintain all applicable licenses.
• Maintain records required by local, state, and federal agencies.
• Perform professional duties, including the safe procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution, and control of prescription medications.
• Ensure the safety and security of the pharmacy.
• Interpret and verify medication orders, identifying potential issues such as dosing errors, contraindications, allergies, drug interactions, or incompatibilities.
• Communicate with veterinarians, their staff, and pet parents as required.
• Oversee nonsterile compounding operations and collaborate with the Head Compounding Pharmacist (HCP) to maintain compliance with USP standards.
• Set, track, and meet production goals, addressing trends or issues that delay batch production.
• Demonstrate knowledge of compounding principles, theories, laws, policies, and procedures.
• Act as Supervisory Compounding Pharmacist in collaboration with the HCP to:
  • Complete training for supervision of all compounding activities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date compounding pharmacist personnel file.
  • Oversee Performance Improvement Programs.
• Uphold operational standards, including performance metrics, safety, and compliance.
• Perform additional duties as required for an ecommerce pharmacy.
• Focus on customer satisfaction, ensuring superior service through best practices and prompt engagement.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Requirements

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
• Active pharmacy license in the state of Pennsylvania in good standing (required). Additional licenses (or ability to obtain them within a specific timeframe) may be required.
• Willingness to obtain any additional licenses as required.
• Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Flexibility to work a variety of schedules, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
