Full-time position with a monthly salary range of $3,229.00 - $4,041.00 (annually $38,748.00 - $48,492.00). A transcript with all credits and a valid vehicle operator's license are required. Criminal background check may be required.

Qualifications

Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and at least one year of full-time, pertinent laboratory experience in a related field of study.

• Undergraduate or graduate coursework in a related field may substitute for experience on a year-to-year basis (e.g., 24 graduate semester hours or 36 graduate quarter hours may substitute for one year of experience).
• Valid vehicle operator's license required.
• Driver record must meet State of Tennessee standards: no DUI, reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than 4 moving violations in the past five years.

Overview

The Public Health Laboratory Technician 2 for Newborn Screening supports laboratory testing and operations in the TDH Division of Laboratory Services. Under immediate supervision, this role performs routine technical and non-technical tasks, including preparing media and reagents, washing glassware, maintaining equipment, specimen/sample accessioning, warehouse receiving, and training other laboratory technicians.

Responsibilities

• Perform data entry and accessioning in the Newborn Screening Laboratory, ensuring accurate patient demographics and information.
• Assist laboratory personnel with testing processes and operations, including routine laboratory and administrative tasks, workload prioritization, and timely completion of assignments.
• Support routine administrative and clerical work, data management, and record retention in accordance with division processes.
• Accurately receive, accession, and route specimens/samples to appropriate laboratory sections for processing and testing.
• Assist with specimen/sample inventory, reagent and supply management, procurement, waste disposal, and preparation/distribution of reagents, media, and supplies.
