Salary: $3,229.00 - $4,041.00 monthly ($38,748.00 - $48,492.00 annually)

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.
• At least one year of full-time, pertinent laboratory experience in a related field of study.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Undergraduate or graduate coursework from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-to-year basis (e.g., 24 graduate semester hours or 36 graduate quarter hours may substitute for one year of experience). A transcript is required for evaluation.

About the Role

The Public Health Laboratory Technician 2 for Newborn Screening supports laboratory testing and operations in the TDH Division of Laboratory Services. Under immediate supervision, the incumbent performs routine technical and non-technical tasks that are more complex and broader in scope than a PH Laboratory Technician 1. Responsibilities include preparing media and reagents, washing glassware, maintaining equipment, specimen/sample accessioning, warehouse receiving, and training other laboratory technicians.

Responsibilities

• Perform data entry and accessioning in the Newborn Screening Laboratory, ensuring accurate patient demographics.
• Assist laboratory personnel in testing processes and operations, including routine laboratory and administrative tasks, prioritizing workloads, and completing assignments accurately and timely.
• Support routine administrative and clerical work, data management, and record retention in accordance with division processes.
• Accurately receive, accession, and route specimens/samples to appropriate laboratory sections for processing and testing.
• Assist in specimen/sample inventory, reagent and supply management, procurement, waste disposal, and preparation/distribution of reagents, media, and supplies.
