Responsibilities
- People Leadership: Facilitate the associate experience and support associate development through training, onboarding, mentoring, and coaching. Provide feedback for performance reviews, disciplinary action, and promotions. Develop new and existing associates through bather and/or stylist certification. Identify internal candidates for academy training to become stylists. Delegate and validate completion of daily salon tasks. Address and administer associate complaints and grievances. Recognize and celebrate associates to drive engagement.
- Salon and Overall Store Experience: Deliver exceptional pet parent service in-person, over the phone, or online, addressing concerns and recommending wellness solutions. Engage with pet parents at checkout to drive connection and rebooking. Communicate and promote marketing initiatives. Use salon tools, including booking systems and call logs, to manage reservations and appointments. Maintain store standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance and a culture of empowerment. Perform full menu of bath, brush, and grooming services, as well as standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) according to PetSmart’s standards. Promote salon sales to achieve targets and productivity metrics. Maintain operational standards, including cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for pets. Take immediate action and report sick or injured pets, transporting to the vet as needed. Communicate business trends and best practices to the Experience Leader. Report facility or supply needs to the Experience Leader or Leader on Duty. Recommend, inform, and sell services and merchandise. Assist in other store departments as required.
Requirements
- 2+ years of grooming experience; may be asked to complete a technical exam
- Full-time availability with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Proficiency with grooming tools, equipment, and products to perform technical work safely
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, and use hands for handling, writing, etc.
- Frequently reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear
- Depth perception required
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally team-lift over 100 pounds
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, and pet hair
- Moderate noise levels, with potential for high noise exposure
- Regular exposure to live animals and their handling
Pay
Exact base rate of pay will be based on relevant experience, training, skills, and store location. Pay for this position is the greater of the base pay rate or groom pay (a designated percentage of the associate’s grooming sales) and can vary by pay period. In no instance will PetSmart pay less than the local minimum wage.
