PES Instructional Support Specialist
About the role
Putnam Elementary School is seeking a caring, flexible, and dependable individual to join our team as an Instructional Support Specialist. This position serves as a critical bridge between student learning and teacher professional development. This new role is a blend of a substitute teacher and a paraeducator. The Instructional Support Specialist will spend time providing targeted math intervention and small group instruction to students while also serving as reliable classroom coverage when teachers attend professional development sessions. This dual role ensures continuous student learning while supporting our teachers' professional growth. Coverage and support for students in classrooms in grades K-4.
Responsibilities
Student Support (Math Focused)
- Provide small group and individual assistance to students, reinforcing classroom instruction and targeted intervention strategies.
- Support students in developing foundational math skills and conceptual understanding.
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to align support activities with the current curriculum.
- Encourage a positive attitude toward learning and foster an inclusive, supportive environment where all students can build confidence and grow in their mathematical abilities.
Teacher Support (PD Coverage)
- Provide classroom coverage for short periods as needed to allow elementary teachers to attend district or school-based math-related professional development sessions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
- CT Teaching Certification (preferred)
- Experience working in a school system preferred
- Experience supporting math instruction or working with students in math intervention programs preferred
Schedule
Full-Time: 35 hours per week
