Personnel Computer Support Technician (Antarctica)

About the role

The Personnel Computer Support Technician supports computer systems and applications, ensuring security policies are implemented and works with other maintenance and engineering personnel to resolve issues.

Responsibilities

• Ensures security policy implementation
• Diagnoses and implements configuration changes
• Updates systems and applies patches
• Troubleshoots hardware, software, and peripherals
• Supports IT services for the U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP)
• Performs IT installation, maintenance, and life-cycle support
• Updates and maintains system/equipment hardware and software configuration data
• Retires and disposes of systems/equipment
• Supports after-hours operations for remote systems
• Investigates and integrates new technologies

Requirements

• Obtain a customer clearance for facility access
• Pass medical and dental examinations
• Physically qualify according to USAP requirements
• Knowledge of data sources, software applications, and design techniques
• Proven ability to advise and recommend solutions
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Manage multiple projects and priorities

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• One year of experience with UNIX and Windows operating systems and virtual environments
