About the role

The Arc Southern Chesapeake is currently hiring part-time Personal Support Associates to assist individuals who need support to access the community, make friends, have fun, and be as self-sufficient as possible. A PSA may provide support to people at home, in recreational settings, or the community. This support may include personal hygiene, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, banking, medical appointments, medication administration (if necessary), transportation, or social and recreational assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in meeting physical and personal management needs of individuals, teaching skills and providing supports.
  • Aids in household management and transportation needs to maximize independence.
  • Dispenses medication (as certified) or other prescribed medical treatments, as necessary.
  • Supports the development of friendships and other relationships.
  • Provides opportunities for involvement in community and leisure activities.
  • Aids in planning, making informed choices, and following through on responsibilities for individuals.
  • Uses effective, sensitive communication skills to build rapport and communicate with individuals.
  • Maintains collaborative professional relationships with individuals and support team members, adhering to ethical standards.
  • Aids in implementing an individualized plan to achieve specific outcomes.
  • Facilitates, assists, and/or represents individuals when there are barriers to their service needs.
  • Identifies, evaluates, or defuses crisis situations, contacts necessary supports, and implements behavior plans as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits them to appropriate sources in a timely manner.
  • Ensures confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Complies with agency guidelines, procedures, and practices.
  • Creates long-term, trusting, and respectful relationships.
  • Completes and passes all required training, initially and ongoing.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid driving license (no driver permit or provisional license accepted).
  • Able to pass a criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland.
  • A good driving record with no more than 2 points on the license.
  • A reliable vehicle for transporting individuals receiving services.
  • Enjoys assisting people and providing hands-on support.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to read and write clearly and concisely.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

Skills

  • Proficiency in computer-based software, such as Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Dependable, responsible, consistent, and punctual.
  • Flexible and able to take direction.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Passes criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland.
  • Valid driving license with a good driving record and access to a safe vehicle for transporting people receiving services.
  • Desire to create long-term, trusting, and respectful relationships.
