Personal Lines Underwriter/Broker
About the role
In this role, you'll help service and manage personal lines accounts while balancing underwriting judgement with day-to-day client support. You'll review insurance applications for property and casualty cover, assess the risk using details such as property value, location, usage, and safety features, and decide whether to accept, amend, or decline the risk within set underwriting guidelines. You'll also work closely with colleagues in the field to gather the information you need to support clear, well-reasoned underwriting decisions. This is a role where service, accuracy, and sound judgement come together, with both production and service goals to work towards.
Responsibilities
- Manage assigned accounts from both a service and underwriting perspective, ensuring each is handled with care and in line with agreed guidelines.
- Review applications, weigh risk information, and help shape policy decisions that are fair, consistent, and well supported.
- Collaborate with field teams to gather necessary information and build a strong foundation for underwriting decisions.
- Monitor production and service goals to ensure accounts are moved forward efficiently while providing support to clients and colleagues.
- Review personal lines insurance applications and make underwriting decisions using set guidelines.
- Assess risk using information such as property value, location, usage, safety features, and other relevant details.
- Decide when to accept, amend, or decline a risk and clearly explain the reasoning.
- Gather information from field contacts to support underwriting decisions.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues and partners, using plain language to explain decisions and request information.
- Maintain an organized, accurate, and follow-through-focused work approach.
- Balance day-to-day servicing with underwriting responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3 years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
- Assignments are broad in nature and usually require originality and ingenuity.
