Status: Exempt. Based out of our West Creek Office (12580 West Creek Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23238) with a hybrid schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days at home after training and probationary period.
About the role
Join the high-performing underwriting team at Virginia Farm Bureau, Forbes’ 2025 & 2026 #1 Homeowners Insurer. This role focuses on exceptional service, strong agency partnerships, profitable growth, and long-term success.
Full-time position: fully in-office during training, then hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days at home). Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break (37.5 hours per week).
Responsibilities
- Accept, modify, or reject applications submitted by agents using reports (MVR, CLUE, inspection reports, etc.).
- Evaluate and monitor existing accounts to confirm continued acceptability.
- Review change requests, updated information, and obtain additional documentation as needed.
- Clearly communicate underwriting decisions with assigned agents.
- Cultivate strong relationships with agents through education, technical assistance, and superior service.
- Collaborate with agents, Policy Services, Claims, Management, and other internal departments.
- Travel to agents’ offices within Virginia (approximately 10% of duties).
- Review claim files, confirm repairs, and follow up with agents as needed.
- Manage workload by prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Vice President.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- 3 years of Property & Casualty experience.

- Insurance coursework or related designations (CPCU, CIC, AINS, AIS, etc.) (preferred).
- Computer literacy with proficiency in ImageRight, FINYS, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.

Pay
$49,000–$58,000 annually.
