Personal Injury Attorney
About the role
The Litigation Attorney is part of a team of attorneys at Whitley Law Firm, managing personal injury cases including medical malpractice, auto accidents, and premise liability. This role involves hands-on management, oversight of a team of case managers and/or paralegals, and support for various departments within the firm.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of litigation matters to resolution
- Examine legal and medical data to determine insurance coverage, liability, and damages
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and insurance companies
- Ensure client satisfaction and timely follow-up throughout each case
- Draft pleadings, motions, demands, and other legal documents
- Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, court hearings, and trials
- Conduct depositions and interviews with clients, witnesses, and experts
- Prepare for and participate in trial proceedings as necessary
- Build and establish relationships in the communities we serve to enhance our brand recognition, marketing efforts, and client service
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and process improvements within the department
- Conduct legal research and analysis related to personal injury laws, regulations, and precedents
- Stay updated on developments in personal injury litigation law and related areas
Requirements
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Extensive independent judgment to make decisions impacting the department
- Excellent written, verbal, and negotiation communication skills
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred
- Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Commitment to providing high quality legal representation and client service
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and cross-departmentally to reach firm goals
- Proficiency in using a CMS (Client Management System)
- Professional and courteous demeanor with demonstrated compassion and empathy for clients
- High level of professionalism and ethical behavior
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in the State Bar of South Carolina with good standing
- Minimum of 5-7 years demonstrated litigation experience, with a minimum of 3 years working directly in a personal injury law firm
- Experience leading and mentoring a team within a legal setting
- Proven track record of representing clients in court

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Typical Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Contact Information
This position is primarily located in our Raleigh, NC office with occasional travel anticipated to Charleston, SC office for client meetings, mediations, depositions, etc.
