About the role

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor (LLA) seeks inquisitive and adaptable individuals with strong critical thinking and communication skills from various educational backgrounds. The role involves developing audit objectives to address important issues affecting Louisiana government, such as program effectiveness and efficiency, as well as compliance with state laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a diverse team to gain an understanding of government programs and processes.
• Interview agency staff and research best practices.
• Analyze datasets to evaluate how well a program is functioning.
• Create accurate, well-documented working papers and draw overall conclusions based on collected evidence.
• Draft clear and concise reports, outlining issues identified and making meaningful recommendations for program improvement.

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree is required.
• Working towards an advanced degree in fields like accounting, business administration, communications, computer science, economics, finance, government, law, management, political science, public administration, psychology, sociology, and other qualitative or quantitative analysis and research fields.
• Certification as a certified public accountant or certified internal auditor is preferred.

Qualifications

Interns should be available to work 20 to 30 hours per week and be adaptable to changing environments and enjoying learning about a variety of topics.

• Creatively and critically approach audit questions.
• Communicate clearly in writing and orally.
• Think analytically and creatively to evaluate programs and generate conclusions.
