About the Organization
UCI Health is one of California's largest academic health systems and the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine. Established on July 1, 1976, UCI Health has grown into a 1,461-bed health system that includes UCI Health - Orange, UCI Health - Irvine, four Community Network hospitals, and a growing network of ambulatory care centers across Orange and Los Angeles counties.
As Orange County’s only academic health system, UCI Health is home to the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center based in the county, the region’s only American College of Surgeons-verified Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center, American College of Emergency Physicians Gold Level 1 Geriatric Emergency Department, and a nationally recognized regional burn center verified by the American Burn Association. Powered by UC Irvine, UCI Health serves 5.6 million people across Orange County, western Riverside County, and southeast Los Angeles County through excellence in patient care, research, and medical education.
About the Role
The House Supervisor is accountable for a combination of clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient functioning of hospital operations and the provision of safe and effective patient care. This includes coordinating clinical and nursing resources to optimize efficient patient flow, supporting throughput initiatives for safe patient placement, and working closely with the staffing office and unit leaders to ensure departments are appropriately staffed.
The incumbent will collaborate with Capacity Management, Transfer Center, Care Management, and hospital operations to manage effective house-wide throughput, escalating issues as appropriate. The House Supervisor will assess issues related to the provision of patient care, patient and employee safety, and patient or family dissatisfaction, and will ensure effective actions are taken to resolve those issues in collaboration with appropriate teams.
The House Supervisor serves as a key liaison, facilitating communication and collaboration between all teams within the medical center and, in the absence of senior leadership, initiates interventions as needed to determine escalations to designated Department Directors and/or the Administrator on call.
