About the role

The People Operations Coordinator is a key member of the Human Resources team, with primary responsibility for benefits administration and coordination. This role ensures employees receive accurate, timely, and compliant benefits support while also providing cross-functional assistance to the Payroll/HRIS Specialist, Talent Acquisition Specialist, and Employee Engagement Specialist. The People Operations Coordinator plays an essential role in delivering a positive and well-supported employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle.

Hybrid role based in Sioux Falls, SD.

Responsibilities

  • HR Operations & Coordination
    • Serve as primary point of contact for HR Team inquiries, routing inquiries to appropriate team members.
    • Create and maintain employee change forms and supporting documents (including checklists, change notices, offer letters, etc.).
    • Assist in maintaining accurate employee records and personnel files within the HRIS.
    • Coordinate onboarding activities including leading New Employee Experience program, new hire documentation, HRIS support, and benefit enrollment.
    • Support offboarding from notice to final separation, confirming important dates, communicating with payroll, and updating records.
    • Assist with HR metrics, compliance reporting, and audits.
    • Research and complete employee verification requests in a timely manner.
    • Provide general HR administrative support and employee-facing assistance as needed.
  • Benefit Administration
    • Administer day-to-day employee benefit programs, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement, FMLA, paid leave, and work comp.
    • Serve as the first point of contact for employee benefit and leave inquiries and issue resolution.
    • Support new hire enrollments, qualifying life event changes, and annual open enrollment activities.
    • Maintain accurate benefits data within HRIS and vendor systems.
    • Coordinate with Payroll to ensure benefit deductions and related transactions are processed accurately.
    • Partner with benefit brokers, carriers, and vendors to resolve issues and support effective program administration.
    • Collaborate on benefit communications, educational materials, and employee resources.
    • Support compliance with applicable benefits regulations, including ACA, COBRA, ERISA, and state paid leave programs.
    • Assist with benefits audits, reporting requirements, renewal processes, and vendor management activities.
  • Payroll Support (Back-up)
    • Provide backup support for payroll processing and related administrative activities.
    • Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries when serving as backup.
    • Assist with payroll-related audits and data validation as needed.
  • Talent Acquisition Support
    • Provide back-up support for recruiting activities as needed, including but not limited to: resume review, candidate screening, etc.
    • Assist with job postings, applicant tracking system administration, and interview coordination.
    • Support candidate communications, scheduling, and recruiting logistics.
    • Coordinate onboarding preparation, communication, background checks & new hire documentation.
    • Assist with community outreach and job fairs.
  • Employee Engagement Support (Back-up)
    • Supports Employee Engagement Specialist with company-wide events, activities, and programs.
    • Act as co-lead for Engagement Crew at location.
    • Assist with employee recognition programs and internal communications including SharePoint.
    • Facilitate New Employee Experience for Sioux Falls new employees and as back up to Employee Engagement Specialist.
    • Help promote positive employee experience through engagement and culture-building initiatives.
    • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with AI tools and maintain an open, curious approach to emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in HR coordination or business administration preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to handle confidential information required.
  • Strong customer service and employee support orientation required.
  • Proficiency with UKG HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration preferred.
  • Experience in multi-state or multi-plan benefits environment preferred.
  • Excellent organization skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks required.
  • Superior skill set in the use of the following software applications preferred: Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.

Pay

Annual salary range: $46,432 – $66,331 – $82,120 (dependent on qualifications).
