Peer Support Worker - INTERNAL
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the developing All Wales Gambling Treatment Service on a short-term, 6-month secondment basis. We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 3 Support Worker to work alongside the nursing team and psychology in delivering practical support and guidance to individuals accessing the service across Wales. The role will involve supporting service users affected by gambling-related harm through practical interventions, wellbeing support, signposting, engagement work and assisting individuals to access appropriate services and resources. The successful candidate will work closely with the nursing and psychology team to help promote recovery, reduce harm and improve access to support. This is a home based / hybrid role and offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of a new and innovative national service. The candidate must be equipped to be able to work from home with IT (internet access).
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who:
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Is compassionate, non-judgemental and person-centred
- Has experience of supporting individuals with complex or vulnerable needs
- Can work independently whilst remaining part of a wider team
- Has good organisational and IT skills
- Has an understanding of mental health, addiction, gambling-related harm or wider wellbeing support services
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
This post is fixed term/secondment for 6 months due to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications and knowledge
- Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject
- Or equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses
- Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
Experience
Essential:
- Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care
Desirable:
- Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice
- Experience of working within the NHS

- Good communication skills – verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively
- Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
- Ability to keep calm in stressful situations
- Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach
- Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own and others workload efficiently
- Ability to use technology to undertake the role, for example Microsoft Office, virtual platforms such TEAMS
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, including lifting, assisting with mobility, and performing other manual tasks

- Enhanced DBS clearance including Adults and Childrens Barred List check
