JOB SUMMARY
The 988 mental health crisis hotline partners with Sycamores to provide support to people experiencing a mental health crisis. The 988 hotline provides initial phone support, while Sycamores' Mobile Crisis Outreach teams handle in-person support. The Mobile Crisis Outreach Team responds 24/7, 365 days a year, and the Mobile Crisis Outreach Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role in crisis stabilization, safety planning, and community resource provision.
Responsibilities
- Respond to calls using the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team van to provide timely support including crisis stabilization, safety planning, and community resources.
- Utilize lived experience to benefit consumers, including adults, youth, children, and their families, and the community.
- Provide care, advocate for client voice and choice, and support decision-making in treatment, rehabilitation, and support services.
- Consult with consumers regarding community resources, crisis intervention, and available services.
- Evaluate individuals in crisis and take measures to ensure their safety, including coordinating care with clinicians, hospitals, and ambulance services.
- Respond to individuals' needs within specified geographical areas and utilize Sycamores vehicles for co-response.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent degree.
- Self-identify as having experience with the recovery process from a mental illness or substance use disorder.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years of continuous sobriety if substance use is included in lived experience, and maintain sobriety throughout employment.
- Willingness to share lived experience and agree to adhere to the Code of Ethics.
- Preferred certification in Peer Support, but not required. Must complete training and certification if not certified.
- Maintain required licenses and certifications.
- Valid California driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of auto insurance meeting minimum coverage requirements.
Qualifications
- Physical demands include managing and de-escalating consumers, frequent driving, and various physical activities.
- Ability to perform job duties in the office during shift, handle telephone calls, interact with customers and co-workers, and practice physical intervention for safety.
- Requires physical presence in the community and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Benefits
Starting Pay Range: $33.80 - $34 per hour (starting pay will be based on previous work experience and educational background.)
Schedule
Shift Schedule: Saturday 6 am - 4:30 pm
