Starting Compensation
Peer Support I: $17.84 - $20.51 per hour based on experience
Certified Peer Support II: $19.37- $22.27 per hour based on experience
Regular full-time employees are eligible for a $2,000 signing incentive, less applicable taxes. Terms and conditions will be provided at the time of offer.

About the Role
Regular full-time Peer Support Specialist/Recovery Coach will share their own recovery experience and support consumers with substance use needs on their recovery journeys. Many consumers will also have co-occurring mental health needs. Peer Support Specialists work in an innovative afterhours Substance Abuse Engagement Center to provide education, promote recovery, and access community resources. Peer Support Specialists advocate for and enhance acceptance of individuals with substance use disorders in the workplace, family, and community.
In a comfortable home-like setting, Peer Support Specialists help people consider options for their personal recovery planning. They also lead groups and work side by side with people to obtain housing, employment, medical care, recovery supports, transportation, recreation, financial benefits, and other available entitlements.
Candidates must have strong engagement skills and a nonjudgmental approach. Peer Support Specialists must be able to work second or third shifts on weekdays and any shift on weekends. This position will primarily cover third shift. Peer Support Specialists work under the supervision of the Mental Health Program Director and Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Share personal recovery experience to support consumers with substance use and co-occurring mental health needs
- Provide education, promote recovery, and connect individuals with community resources
- Advocate for acceptance of individuals with substance use disorders
- Assist in personal recovery planning in a home-like setting
- Lead groups and help individuals obtain housing, employment, medical care, and other supports
- Work second or third shifts on weekdays and any shift on weekends (primarily third shift)
Requirements

- Strong teaming skills for a collaborative treatment approach
- Some knowledge or experience in treating adults with substance use and/or serious mental health needs (desirable)
- Ability to work outside typical business hours: second shift (4 pm to 12 midnight), third shift (12 midnight - 8 am), and weekend shifts (including daytime 8 am - 4 pm)
- Strong engagement skills and a nonjudgmental approach
- High school diploma
- Experience as a primary consumer in recovery from substance use or co-occurring disorder
- Valid MI driver’s license
Qualifications
- Peer Support I: High school diploma and personal recovery experience
- Certified Peer Support II: Completion of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services training and certification as Peer Recovery Coach or Peer Support Specialist or Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) certification
