About the role

The Peer Support Specialist II provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. The role assists in implementing and creating a recovery environment, acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual, and supports participants through resume building, job searching, and recovery planning.

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and mentoring to peer support staff through role modeling and guidance, demonstrating techniques and practices of peer support and self-help.
• Act as a mentor for new team members, facilitating training opportunities for professional development.
• Support participant wellness, groups, and other activities that strengthen recovery.
• Ensure all program elements and expectations are met.
• Provide peer support to engage participants in a recovery partnership and assist in identifying participants' hopes, dreams, and solutions.
• Teach recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
• Model hope, personal responsibility, and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met.
• Cultivate connectedness in participants' lives (self, others, environment, meaning, and purpose).
• Complete clinical notes as required.
• Facilitate documentation, transfers, and transition of guest care.
• Stay updated on federal and state regulations, laws, and Recovery Innovations policies and procedures.
• Adhere to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as outlined in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.
• Assist with initial introductions to the clinical team, serving as a point of contact for participants.
• Coordinate with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help achieve goals.
• Coordinate transportation to external resources and facilitate community integration.
• Develop and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with team members.
• Create peer-level curriculum and facilitate group activities.
• Aid participants with resume building, job searching, and recovery planning.
• Provide recovery support services in partnership with team members in the community.
• Assist individuals in maintaining healthy living within the community.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Successful completion of Peer Employment Training, obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (required).
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.
• Two (2) years of full-time behavioral health experience.
• Additional training in peer-related topics (required).
• Experience in community navigation, resume writing, curriculum development, and family peer support.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements.

Pay

$19.00/hour

Schedule

9:00 AM - 9:00 PM - Rotating schedule: two days on, two days off, three days on, two days off, with every other weekend off.

Work Setting

Crisis - Cumberland Recovery Response Center; Fayetteville, NC

Additional Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old (or meet state-specific age requirements).
• Travel required based on business need.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA guidelines and regulations) and professionalism.
• Must pass a seven-year background check.
• Must pass substance abuse testing and/or tuberculosis testing (if applicable).
• Must pass education verification check.
• Must obtain designated fingerprinting clearance in applicable states.
• Must pass a three-year motor vehicle report and meet minimum eligibility requirements of the insurance carrier if driving is required.
• A Direct Service Competency Checklist must be completed as part of the new hire onboarding process.
• If driving is required, must meet all requirements outlined in Recovery Innovations driving policy or sign a Non-Driver Attestation form.

Physical Demands

• May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination, corrected vision, color vision, and auditory senses.
• May be required to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

Work Environment

• May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility.
• May have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused.

State-Specific Requirements

• Arizona:
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Required to attend court hearings when listed as a witness on a petition.
• California:
  • Must obtain Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (CMPSS) within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Two (2) years full-time behavioral health experience preferred but not required for the Art Works Program.
  • Art-related experience required to support the Art Works program.
• Louisiana:
  • Must be 24 years or older.
• North Carolina - Peer Navigator:
  • Proof of valid and unrestricted Driver's License.
  • Proof of up-to-date vaccination records, including childhood vaccinations. If records are not accessible, must complete and provide proof prior to hire.
  • Must clear the authorized driving component for Recovery Innovations and provide proof of personal auto insurance with minimum coverage: $100,000 in bodily injury, $100,000 in property damage, or both.
• Washington:
  • Additional specified state registration for Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC).
