Peer Support Specialist

Responsibilities
- Aid in meeting the needs of program treatment staff and clients to provide quality services to Severely Mentally Ill (SMI) clients of the program.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and agency policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality of verbal and written consumer information.
- Support clients in establishing and maintaining self-help groups.
- Be present to greet clients upon their arrival to the Program.
- Affirm clients' understanding of program rules and procedures.
- Attend weekly program meetings.
- Answer phones and assist with some filing and general office duties.
- Provide client transportation.
- Supervise and monitor clients while at the office.
- Offer individual life skills training and facilitate group sessions at the program.
- Plan and organize special socialization groups and events for the clients.
- Communicate systematically with agencies and significant others involved in the rehabilitation of clients.
- Submit timely reports on any unusual occurrences impacting the program's operation or the health and safety of clients or employees.
- Act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
- Drive on Agency business.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current certified training in emergency first aid procedures.
- Current or former recipient of client services required.
- Effective and proficient communication in both written and spoken English.
- Ability to establish trusting relationships with peers.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Available to work all shifts as scheduled.
- Intermediate computer skills in Office 365, Teams, Zoom, and other communication/meeting platforms.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
Bilingual Skills
- Required ability to communicate effectively with monolingual Spanish-speaking clients and families for all clinical purposes.
- Assist with phone calls for Spanish clients.
- Periodic requirement to provide language translations for staff.
- Minimal adequate competency in the Spanish language as evidenced by successful passage of the TPOCC Spanish Competency Test.
- Other translation tasks as required.
Benefits
Pay Range: *Updates effective 7/1/26
Monolingual: Class 111 ($23.02/hour)
Bilingual: Class 116 ($23.26 - $24.19/hour)
