Peer Support Specialist

Responsibilities

• Deliver peer support services in an outpatient setting to clients suffering from drug or alcohol dependencies.
• Utilize psychiatric rehabilitation skills and addiction recovery principles to promote recovery.
• Collaborate with patients to define treatment goals and success measures using evidence‑based outcome measures.
• Foster connection and a sense of belonging, encouraging self‑direction, wellness, and recovery.
• Attend conferences/workshops concerning mental health or substance use treatment and participate in multidisciplinary projects as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent education required.
• Medi‑Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (CMPSS) with CalMHSA; must obtain within 1 month of hire if not already certified and maintain certification in good standing.
• Lived experience with recovery from a mental illness or substance use disorder (required).

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience in substance dependence, mental health, or healthcare field preferred.
• Strong understanding of addiction recovery practices and trauma‑informed care preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of healthcare experience preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred.
• Valid BLS certification or higher (AHA or Red Cross) preferred.

Pay

$25.00 - $25.00 hourly. Actual salary offers are considered based on budget, experience, skills, education, licensure, certifications, and other business considerations; the range is subject to change. AltaMed is committed to a fair and competitive compensation package reflecting the candidate's value and the role's strategic importance.
