Peer Recovery Support Specialist - Outreach & Engagement - Pathways to Care
Job Summary
As a Peer Recovery Support Specialist, you will use your lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery to provide hope, support, and guidance to individuals in the recovery process. You will work as part of an integrated care team to deliver peer-based recovery support, helping individuals develop recovery goals, navigate treatment services, and connect with community resources.
Position Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and group peer support to individuals recovering from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
- Share personal experiences to build trust, inspire hope, and foster a sense of empowerment in clients.
- Aid individuals in developing personalized recovery plans, including setting goals and identifying strategies for overcoming barriers.
- Help clients navigate the healthcare system, including linking them to treatment services, social services, housing, and other community resources.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to ensure holistic, person-centered care.
- Provide education on recovery and wellness, encouraging individuals to take an active role in their recovery.
- Assist clients in developing self-advocacy skills and accessing support networks.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services provided, in accordance with CCBHC standards.
- Facilitate peer-led recovery groups and workshops.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, training, and supervision.
- Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all client interactions.
Qualifications
- EDUCATION: Must be a high school graduate or have HS equivalent.
- EXPERIENCE: Specialized experience as a recipient of mental health services for mental illness and experience working with adults with mental illness.

Certifications/Licenses
- To become a PRSS with FCS, applicants must obtain both PRSS Certification (application fee is required before receiving a start date) and CM1 Certification (required after the start date).
- PRSS Certification: $26 application fee (no additional costs).
- CM1 Certification: $25 application fee, $50 training fee, $45 exam fee.
Safety Sensitivity
This job is classified as a “safety-sensitive” position as defined by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act. Due to the “safety-sensitive” classification, an employee in this position would be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana per the Family & Children’s Services Drug Free Workplace Policy, including possible revocation of a job offer or dismissal from employment.
