About the Role

A Peer Recovery Specialist in Training is a team member working towards CPRS/CRSS certification. Under supervision and training, you will assist patients in accessing evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders, with a focus on low-threshold access to medication-assisted recovery (MAR), treatment programs, and harm reduction. Using your lived experience, you will mentor and support individuals in recovery, helping them navigate treatment and achieve their goals while developing the skills and knowledge required for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial brief assessments and connect patients to recovery programs and services with supervision.
  • Assist with facilitating appointments at outpatient treatment clinics, including Carle Addiction Recovery Center (CARC) and external community agencies.
  • Help patients access additional services such as financial counseling, primary care, mental health services, social services, and residential treatment facilities.
  • Assist with navigating barriers to substance use treatment for patients.
  • Establish professional relationships with patients and communicate to help them overcome obstacles to follow-up treatment while providing encouragement.
  • Under supervisor guidance, provide ongoing recovery support to ensure patients arrive, engage with intake staff, and remain in treatment over time, helping them navigate stages of change and practical considerations.
  • Respond to calls or messages from patients and providers as appropriate.
  • Use motivational interviewing techniques to communicate in a respectful, culturally appropriate, and non-judgmental manner.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of substance effects, withdrawal symptoms, and treatment options to effectively educate and counsel patients.
  • Provide education and information to patients, families, and other interested parties on addiction, overdose signs, and naloxone administration.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $21.02 per hour to $35.10 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
