About the role

Provides direct service to clients in their homes, assisting with training in skills of daily living. Assists with recruiting and hiring of peer staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of peers including outreach to peer organizations, resume screenings, conducting interviews and recommending candidates for employment at ACMH programs.
  • Lead and support recruitment and hiring efforts for peer staff by promoting peer roles and ensuring equitable, recovery-oriented hiring practices that prioritize lived experience and alignment with peer support values.
  • Teach skills for maintaining personal hygiene, laundry and apartment cleaning.
  • Monitor overall maintenance of apartments and alert program director of maintenance problems.
  • Teach skills for budgeting, shopping, meal planning, preparation and clean-up.
  • Teach skills for self-preservation, monitor living units for safety and cleanliness.
  • Administer the client cooking safety test.
  • Monitor, document and teach self-administration of medication, according to program policy and procedures.
  • Report incidents or behavioral changes in residents to supervisor.
  • Teach travel skills and escort clients, where needed.
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate groups, as requested.
  • Document services rendered and client progress in a timely manner.
  • Assist in building self-advocacy skills to effectively communicate with supports and treatment team.
  • Support recovery skill building goals to decrease frequency of contact with emergency services.
  • Attend training and other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Requirements

  • Lived experience receiving mental health services such as past or current participant of behavioral health, substance or homeless services; commitment to assist others in attaining their mental health recovery goals in part through sharing own personal lived experiences.
  • Completion of New York Certified Peer Program (NYCPS) certification required.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.

Pay

$52,683 per year.
