About the Role

Jefferson County Department of Health is seeking a Pediatrician to provide a variety of medical care in the medical specialty area of pediatrics. Pediatricians specialize in the health care needs of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. The role requires considerable independent judgment and decision-making regarding diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients, performed under the administrative direction of the Health Center Administrator and medical direction of the Medical Director.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and provides direct patient care to children in an outpatient setting by conducting patient examinations, reviewing medical charts, administering treatments, counseling patients and parents/guardians, and updating patient charts.
  • Provides medical services and guidance to children and their parents/guardians by answering questions, routing calls, and researching issues to deliver effective treatment and services.
  • Examines children regularly to assess their growth and development, ensuring no obstacles or medical issues.
  • Diagnoses children’s health based on patient examination and/or analysis of tests to recommend treatment.
  • Recommends course of treatment for patients based on examination, lab results, and referral consultations.
  • Administers, orders, and prescribes medications and vaccinations to address medical conditions.
  • Engages in professional development activities to stay aware of developments in the field and relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and guidelines.
  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing job duties, monitoring progress, and providing feedback or training.

Requirements

  • Possession of an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Alabama or ability to obtain an Alabama license prior to beginning employment (e.g., currently licensed in another U.S. state).
  • Completion of an accredited pediatric residency program prior to beginning employment.
  • Possession of a Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board-Certified Physician (American Board of Pediatrics).
  • At least three years of post-residency Pediatric experience.

Skills

  • Ability to perform sedentary work involving sitting for long periods, with occasional walking or standing.
  • Occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Physical ability to visually inspect fine details, such as identifying similarities and differences in colors, shapes, textures, or physical appearance for diagnosis and treatment.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a clinic setting or within medical or healthcare facilities. Involves use of standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone) and medical tools necessary for patient care and diagnosis.

Pay

$149,510 - $231,940
