Pediatric Rehabilitation Technician - Outpatient

About the Role

Create a positive first impression for all patients, family members, and guests to the outpatient pediatric rehab department by providing excellent and efficient customer service. Ensure patients are greeted and directed appropriately to the treating Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Therapist. Confirm the patient has all that is necessary for the service to be accomplished so that a delay is not experienced. Serve as a representative of our facility to the public personally, as well as over the telephone.

Maintain the appearance of the treatment rooms in the rehab area of the pediatric clinic and notify appropriate departments when an area needs attention. Record patient information, answer telephone calls in a timely manner, and ensure messages are distributed. Schedule patients for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy.

Assist in the administration of physical, occupational, and speech therapy treatments to patients, working under the direction of a Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, and Speech Therapist. Under their direction, instruct, motivate, and assist patients and family members to learn and improve functional activities, such as pre-ambulation, transfer, ambulation, and daily-living activities, including pediatric feeding.

Confer with members of the pediatric rehab staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs. Perform clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephones, taking messages, faxing paperwork, and filling out forms. May measure vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist clinicians in compiling data for patient evaluations and treatments.

Responsible for the cleanliness of all treatment rooms in the pediatric rehab department, ensuring all toys are cleaned appropriately, disposing of dirty linen, and stocking all treatment rooms with clean linen.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of treatment rooms, clean toys appropriately, dispose of dirty linen, and stock rooms with clean linen.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses (e.g., Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, American Red Cross). The ILCOR course must include a manikin check-off.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience with EPIC is a plus.
• Ability to coordinate activities and organize work efficiently and timely.
• Capability to evaluate and establish priorities, design and accomplish goals, and function independently within the scope of authority.

Physical Demands

• Must possess good physical health.
• Standing, sitting, or walking for long periods of time.
• Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
• Constant (67% - 100%): talking, hearing, seeing.
• Occasionally (1%-33%): lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling/feeling, crawling.

Schedule

Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Schedule may vary based on clinic needs but will be a 36-hour per week position.
