About the role
The J.D. McCarty Center is seeking a Physical Therapist to join our dynamic team. This position provides evaluations and therapy to developmentally disabled patients, birth-21, with a variety of medical conditions. Services include inpatient, outpatient, and intensive therapy.
Responsibilities
- Evaluation: Performs initial and ongoing assessments of each patient's condition and abilities at a quality level commensurate with the employee’s professional experience. Selects evaluation tools, gathers all necessary information, and interprets results in a manner appropriate to the patient's age and abilities.
- Treatment Planning: Establishes a plan of care that appropriately prioritizes and addresses identified problems, aligning with the patient's/family's needs, capabilities, and goals. Designs treatment programs for patients with various diagnoses, adapting techniques for patients unable to respond to conventional methods. Continuously assesses the patient's condition and modifies the plan of care as needed, ensuring adequate time for patients to access additional resources and educate them on post-discharge activities or needs.
- Intervention: Administers the plan of care safely, demonstrating competence in implemented techniques and procedures at a quality level commensurate with the employee’s experience. Monitors patient responses during each session and makes necessary adjustments. Establishes rapport with patients and families.
- Documentation: Documents PT services clearly, concisely, and legibly, adhering to APTA guidelines. Prepares evaluation reports, discharge summaries, staffing reports, and equipment orders meeting departmental standards for completeness and timeliness.
- Patient/Family Education: Provides appropriate education and training to patients and/or caregivers. Designs home programs tailored to the patient's needs. Utilizes written materials, verbal instruction, and demonstrations adapted to the trainee's age, literacy level, cognitive ability, etc. Informs patients and caregivers about progress, challenges, and other information related to the therapeutic process. Coordinates with outside healthcare providers for post-discharge or concurrent treatment.
- Supervision of Support Personnel: Utilizes support personnel to perform tasks within their abilities to enhance departmental efficiency. Selects and delegates appropriate tasks of the plan of care. Directs and supervises supportive personnel in implementing these tasks and adjusts delegated tasks as necessary. Provides feedback to support personnel and students regarding job performance.
- Center and Department Policies: Organizes and prioritizes work schedule to meet productivity standards set by the Department. Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and other meetings. Adheres to Center and Department policies and procedures. Maintains current physical therapy licensure, including requirements for continuing education, CPR certification, and any other certifications deemed necessary and appropriate by the therapist and supervisor. Completes other job assignments and participates actively in all job activities.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
- Current license to practice as a Physical Therapist in the state of Oklahoma.
- Experience working with developmentally disabled individuals and a variety of medical conditions.
- Knowledge of and experience with a range of treatment techniques, including Dynamic Movement Intervention, Universal Exercise Unit, TheraSuit Method, TASES, NISE-Stim, TMR Tots, Reflex Integration, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
