Pediatric Palliative Care Physician – MSK Kids

About the Role

The Department of Pediatrics at MSK is seeking a Pediatric Palliative Care Physician to join the Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT), providing pain and palliative care services for children and young adults with cancer and cancer-related illnesses. PACT is a busy, growing service offering advanced pain and symptom management in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The team includes three physicians, three nurse practitioners, an office practice nurse, and care coordinators. PACT collaborates closely with integrative medicine, pediatric psychiatry and psychology, child life, social work, chaplaincy, and primary oncology services, and maintains strong relationships with regional hospices.

This position is open to candidates at all career levels, with academic appointments commensurate with experience. MSK offers both clinician educator and research pathways.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care for children and young adults with cancer or cancer-related conditions in inpatient, PICU, day hospital, pediatric urgent care, and outpatient clinics on the main campus.
• Share inpatient and outpatient service time equally among three physicians.
• Share home call equally to address urgent inpatient concerns.
• Provide education to:
  • Pediatric residents on their oncology rotation from seven pediatric residency programs.
  • Pediatric hematology/oncology fellows from the combined MSK/Weill Cornell Medicine program.
  • Rotating physician and NP/PA palliative care fellows from the MSK Supportive Care Service on their pediatric rotation.
  • Visiting medical students, residents, and fellows on pediatric palliative care rotations.
  • Pediatric faculty and staff to enhance primary palliative care.
• Pursue academic interests with protected time, including research studies, quality improvement, and program development.
• Facilitate the development of a pediatric palliative care fellowship track.

Requirements

• Full unrestricted license to practice medicine in New York (or eligibility for licensure in New York and New Jersey).
• Doctor of Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO), or equivalent.
• Board-certified in Pediatrics and/or board-eligible in Palliative Care.
• Eligible for academic appointment ranging from Assistant Member to Member.

Pay

$186,000 - $295,000 per year.
