About the role

Transform Healthcare by diagnosing and treating human disease, illness and injuries while practicing evidence-based medicine. Prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments. Serve on various Carilion and/or hospital committees. Complete necessary documentation for patients' health information records. Deliver high quality, compassionate medical care.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patients using various medical equipment, instruments and tests.
  • Order or perform various tests, analyses and imaging to provide information on patients' condition.
  • Determine patients' condition based on examination, test and report results.
  • Prescribe and administer drugs, treatments and vaccinations.
  • Perform perinatal care to pregnant women and deliver babies; perform surgeries and related invasive procedures.
  • Work closely with case management, nursing, and the medical staff to ensure all patients have an appropriate plan of care and ongoing care coordination.
  • Achieve Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives through collaboration with hospital management, the medical staff, and employees in areas like equipment and supply standardization, medical resource management, and evidence-based medicine.
  • Complete all required documentation timely and accurately.
  • Report births, deaths, and contagious diseases as required.
  • Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
    • Board certification in relevant medical specialty.
    • Current license to practice medicine in the state of employment.
    • Experience in healthcare delivery and patient care.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
