About the role
The inpatient pediatric unit accommodates 8-10 pediatric patients with various medical conditions and post-surgical care needs. One of the few integrated neonatal intensive care units in the nation, this unit provides care to infants 28+ weeks gestation and has a NICU transport team.
Responsibilities
- Manages day-to-day operations and upholds clinical practice standards
- Provides positive leadership and problem-solving skills
- Ensures continuous quality improvement, patient satisfaction, budgeting, customer and staff feedback, training and development
- Works cooperatively with other departments and external organizations
- Adheres to MercyOne’s performance expectations and mission, vision, and values
- Responsible for clinical practice within the department
- Ensures safe, effective delivery of clinical services
- Rounds and interacts with physicians, staff, patients, families and customers
- Available to problem solve, support and assist the team
- Upholds clinical practice standards and guidelines
- Develops, implements and monitors a Quality Improvement Plan
- Responds to customer complaints within 24-48 hours
- Follows up on incident reports and takes immediate action to events of major consequences
- Documents and takes action within 24 hours on potentially compensable events
- Documents and reports unsafe conditions
- Demonstrates compliance with all licensing, accrediting, certification, and/or legal requirements
- Communicates and works with others in an age-appropriate manner
- Manages change by educating team members to accept and acknowledge change, leading others through it with enthusiasm
- Acts as a mentor and coach to staff
- Manages budgeting and resource allocation
- Maintains a safe working environment
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and bachelor’s degree is required
- Master’s degree is preferred
- Current Iowa RN license required at the time of hire
- At least two (2) years of relevant clinical nursing experience is required
- Relevant supervisory experience is preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within three (3) months of hire
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter for both Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training is required within six (6) months of hire
- Specialty practice certification is preferred
