Pediatric Neurosurgeon

This position is designed for a surgeon-scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to elevate and expand the institution’s pediatric neurosurgery clinical and research programs at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital and the Department of Neurosurgery.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will be a fellowship-trained, board-eligible or board-certified neurosurgeon with a primary focus in pediatric neurosurgery. The successful applicant will work effectively in multidisciplinary collaborative programs, demonstrate surgical technical excellence, and develop research programs related to their area of clinical practice. Responsibilities include enhancing existing pediatric neurosurgery programs, bringing a significant research program to the Department, and participating in resident education.

Practice sites include the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, the University of Minnesota Medical Center, its Ambulatory Surgical Center, and outreach sites in the Minnesota Health system.

The University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital is ranked among the Best Children’s Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report (2016-2017) in four specialties. The Department of Neurosurgery supports a fully ACGME-accredited residency training program in Neurological Surgery, with all faculty members participating in residency education.

Responsibilities

• Enhance and expand the pediatric neurosurgery clinical and research programs.
• Develop and lead research programs related to clinical practice.
• Demonstrate surgical technical excellence in pediatric neurosurgery.
• Participate in multidisciplinary collaborative programs.
• Contribute to resident education within the ACGME-accredited Neurological Surgery residency program.

Requirements

• Fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery.
• Board-eligible or board-certified in neurosurgery.
• Experience or distinct training in pediatric neurosurgery.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and lead research programs.
• Full-time appointment on the clinical scholar track; level of appointment and compensation dependent on qualifications and experience.

Pay and Benefits

This role is dually employed by University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota. Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.

• Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through M Physicians. The base salary range for this position is $607,000 - $764,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and clinical full-time equivalent (cFTE).
• University salary is dependent upon the academic effort of the person hired.
