About the role

The Virginia Commonwealth University, in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, has built the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Division into a model division dedicated to academic excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases in the Department of Pediatrics at VCU seeks a full-time, physician-scientist faculty member at any level (Instructor, Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor).

Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, chief residents, and fellows when applicable.
  • Research: Participate in basic, clinical, translational, or outcomes research, secure revenue through grants and contracts, and mentor other members of the division and the Department of Pediatrics.
  • Service: Serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, and engage in professional activities through journal review, conference presentations, etc.
  • Clinical: Provide clinical support within the Division of Infectious Diseases, including inpatient and outpatient consultation for children with suspected infections, complex, chronic, or recurrent infections, or particularly difficult cases to diagnose or treat.
  • Other: Take on administrative duties associated with this role, and ensure all required certifications for yourself and your laboratory personnel are maintained.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, experience with clinical care of patients, and demonstrated ability to work in a respectful, professional, and civil environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an academic medical center, success in generating revenue through grants and contracts, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications and successful grant/contract funding.
