Job Summary
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Nurse to join the Pediatric Gastroenterology team at the Primary Children's Hospital Lehi campus. The team consists of 10 RNs, 4 NPs, and 20 MDs.
Responsibilities
- Delivers professional nursing care to patients via in-person, phone, or patient portal.
- Utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implements clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates patient care plans and patient education materials to enhance and improve outcomes.
- Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Performs phone management with patients' parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
- Discusses patient and family concerns in person/over the phone and/or via the electronic health record.
- Provides and develops patient/family education materials surrounding common Gastroenterology disorders; communicates education best practices to proactively answer common questions to reduce future messages.
- Communicates adjustments in treatment plan to families.
- Communicates lab & other test results to families.
- Provides medication refills.
- Aids providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, and preauthorization.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
- Works closely with triage team and gastroenterology staff to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families.
- Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
- Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
- Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions, and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
- Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.
Qualifications
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah.
- Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.
