Pediatric Behavioral Health Specialist - PRN

About the role

The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) provides direct therapeutic contact to patients through the delivery of specific groups designed to address psychological vulnerabilities. This role also involves providing individual and ad-hoc supportive contact to patients, focusing on validating negative feelings, offering coping strategies, building self-esteem, developing skills, and assessing immediate risk.

Responsibilities

• Leads or co-leads educational and/or didactic groups.
• Ensures a positive and safe milieu by role-modeling prosocial attitudes and providing platforms for positively engaged patients.
• Collaborates with the treatment team to maintain the overall environment of care, including safety interventions, patient care needs, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Takes initiative to improve the work environment and guide others toward problem-solving and treatment questions.
• Mentors and/or orientates new caregivers and students.
• Aligns with the Intermountain Operating Model and continuous improvement practices, including idea escalation, unit project coordination, and change management.
• Maintains high standards of professionalism by modeling appropriate and positive behaviors and coaching peers and patients in real time.
• Completes timely and accurate documentation of groups, patient care interventions, and observations.
• May provide more direct observation of acutely unsafe patients in collaboration with the treatment team and charge nurse, including instances when assigned to act as a 1:1.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
• Demonstrated relevant work experience in a behavioral health or similar setting.
• Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication, hearing, and understanding spoken information quickly and accurately.
• Manual dexterity for manipulating complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, typically including items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
• Participation in the physical management of high-risk patient behaviors.
• Expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or family studies (preferred).
• 6 months relevant work experience in a behavioral health or similar setting (preferred).

Pay

$19.50 - $26.48 per hour

Schedule

Day shift(s), 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday
