About the role

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works with nurses and doctors to care for patients. PCTs are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and get healthy again. Under the supervision of a nurse, the PCT ensures tasks are performed safely and correctly. The role may also include Unit Clerk duties, assisting with paperwork and administrative tasks to keep the hospital running smoothly and enable the best possible patient care.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing
• Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating
• Collect samples (e.g., urine)
• Report any changes in a patient's condition to the nursing staff
• Assist with patient walks, hygiene, weighing, and taking vitals
• Help with paperwork and administrative tasks to support hospital operations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• BLS CPR certificate (training provided during orientation if not already obtained)
• No previous job experience required, but must meet one of the following:
  • Completed STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training
  • Provided patient care within the past 5 years (e.g., taking temperature, bathing, assisting with restroom use)
  • Currently enrolled in nursing school with at least one clinical rotation completed

• Basic computer proficiency
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent communication and active listening abilities
• Previous hospital experience is a plus
